Miss Scanlon was a Teacher in the Novice Teacher Training Program developed by Mr. D.Scott Schwartz, M.Ed. in the K12 program he ran in New Jersey (2009-2019).
The Star-Ledger Online is NJ's main daily newspaper and this article was featuring innovative school leaders. The reporter interviewed Miss Scanlon, a first-year teacher, in order to understand why there was a waiting list of teachers trying to work at Mr. Schwartz's K12 program.
In this excerpt, Miss Scanlon talks about reflecting on how much she learned and grew over her first year of teaching, and how much more confident she felt as a teacher moving forward. What's not discussed in this article is how much more she understood about expert level teaching than all of her friends that were working in traditional public and charter schools.
