The BIG SECRET to getting way more work done in less time, is working in Bulk. What that means is doing repetitive tasks in large quantities. Let's take Lesson Plans for example. Yesterday you completed One Full Lesson Plan in Less Time. Remember, that is an amazing job.
Today's Assignment: Complete 4 Weeks of Lesson Plans
If you typically write 1-Week Lesson plans - Complete 3 More Weeks
If you typically write bi-weekly lesson plans - Complete 1 More Bi-Weekly plan.
The Reasoning Behind Working in Bulk:
If you have 4 weeks of lesson plans written, completed and submitted - you can now tackle the other aspects of your job. You are not looking over your shoulder "with that thought in your head" Oh Damn!! It's time to write my plans. You are done - for 4 weeks. (You Should Plan One Day a Month to Write 4 Weeks of Plans Every Month)
Most Common Objection:
The single biggest reason most commonly given by teachers NOT to plan for 4 weeks at one time is "But I have No Idea How Far I Can Go With My Students." By planning 4 Weeks of Lessons, you are not going too far ahead of your students. In fact, you might discover that you have been holding your students back a bit.
NOTE: The Teacher ALWAYS reserves the right to change or modify their lesson plan AT ANY TIME.
THE TEACHER ALWAYS RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CHANGE OR MODIFY THEIR LESSON PLANS!!!
Part of your job is to plan and submit your plans for Principal approval. Just GET THAT PART out of the way. It is expected that you will modify your plans AFTER approval. It is expected by your Principal. So use that expectation to your Advantage and Stop preventing yourself from being DONE with Lesson Plans. If you work in bulk, especially with Lesson Planning - you will take the single most time consuming and mentally challenging part of your job and getting it done in One Day, instead of worrying about it EVERYDAY.
After you complete 4 weeks of Lesson Plan -- CONGRATS!! You Just Doubled Your Work Productivity in Half the Time.
Remember, we said to not overschedule your week? Now Go back and look at your weekly schedule. What can you adjust now that you do not have to do Lesson Planning anymore for 4 weeks? Look ahead to NEXT WEEK now, how much MORE Time do you have to start to catch up on OTHER work?
