Meet the Founder of Leaf Academy

Doc Schwartz, M.Ed.

Doc is a former teacher, principal and superintendent, but what most people don't realize is how much educators need to become the CEO of their own lives, in order to beat the stress of the educational system.

For example, on Doc's very first day as principal, nearly 40% of his teachers walked into his office and said, "we're thinking about quitting this year."

That's not exactly how you want to start your new principal career, but when you're the leader of any organization you're expected to be able to handle any situation that comes your way.

But here's the problem with that.

How can you handle any situation, when you didn't learn Next Gen leadership skills in school? Therefore, how are you supposed to become the CEO of your own life?

That's what Doc wanted to find out. How could people begin to face their life challenges, when our school system didn't want to teach people Next Gen leadership skills?

And the answer became Leaf Academy.  At Leaf Academy, you will learn how to become the CEO of your own life. That means, you will learn how to handle any situation that might come up, so that you won't feel so stressed out and that way you will be calm enough to find a solution. Because after all, don't you deserve to find peace and happiness in your life?

Therefore, after Doc became the CEO of his life, he was able to solve his school's teacher crisis and then went on to help an additional 5,000 teachers from quitting. Now imagine what you could do if you were the CEO of your own life?

Disrupting Education
Learn the Secret to Next Gen Leadership Skills
What is a Leader?

Most people have a very hard time answering this question. Not because they aren't intelligent or even well-educated. The reason people have difficulty answering this question is because thy didn't learn Next Gen leadership skills in school. Therefore, how are you supposed to answer a question you never learned in school?

  • The Missing Link: The only thing missing from our K12 education is a Next Gen skills curriculum. When kids go to school, they are being taught how to read, write and do math, but why aren't kids also learning next gen leadership skills in school? After all, don't we want kids to become the leaders of the next generation?
  • Teaching Leadership Skills:  You can't teach leadership skills through reading a book or studying a case study. Leadership is a skill, which means its not something you're born with. Therefore, schools need to start teaching kids how to become the CEO of their lives, so that when they graduate from school, they are ready to follow their dreams.
  • Building 21st Century Schools:  If we want to provide kids with a real 21st century education, then shouldn't we teach them Next Gen skills?  Disrupting Education will show you how to give kids the real 21st century education they deserve.
  • The 6 Principles of Leadership:  Leadership is a skill, which means leaders can be taught, instead of thinking leaders are born. Therefore, if we want kids to become future leaders and the CEO of their own lives, then we have to start showing them the 6 principles of leadership in school. When you read "Disrupting Education" you will finally get to see all 6 research-based principles of leadership, so that you can show other people what it means to be a real leader in the 21st century.

"Disrupting Education" is a real game changer when it comes to Next Gen skills and leadership in the 21st century. That's because this is the first book to fully outline the 6 principles of leadership in a way that can be replicated in any school across the country.

What this means is teachers, principals and school districts no longer have to guess what they need to teach. Everything they need to know is now inside this book.

Therefore, if you want to help kids become the next generation of leaders, you have to teach them the 6 principles of leadership skills. Because once kids know the 6 principles, then its so much easier for them to become the CEO of their own lives and also how to make their dreams come true.

The Leaf Academy Professional Development Program

In 2009, Doc launched the Teacher Development Program. At the time, the small group of academic elite who run our schools laughed at him. According to them, teachers don't need individualized and personalized teacher training. The "one size fits all" approach to PD was in their words, "good enough for teachers."

But is "good enough" what we want to do or do we want to treat teachers with more respect?

  • One Size Does Not Fit All:  There was a time when "one size fits all" professional development worked. But that time is not now. That time is over. What teachers need now is individualized and personalized PD that fits their individual needs. Because teachers are different from one another. Every teacher is unique. Therefore, don't teachers deserve a PD program that shows them how to be the best teacher they can be?
  • Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: Most people do not know the "Pareto Principle." That's not their fault. After all, the professors in college don't think teaching the "Pareto Principle" is important. Except, when you don't understand this principle, you will be doomed to repeat it. The "Pareto Principle" says that 80% of all the work will always be done by only 20% of the workforce. In other words, 20% of teachers in every school building are doing 80% of all the work that needs to be done. That's why your best teachers are being burnt out. Meanwhile 80% of teachers are slacking off. This isn't an opinion, this is provable math. So that's the question, how do you get 80% of teachers to step up more to the plate?
  • 21st Century Leadership: Schools need leaders. Teachers need leaders. And students need leaders. Our current school system is run by a small group of academic elites, who think everyone that doesn't have a doctorate hanging on their wall is stupid. But are you really stupid? Leadership starts from the top. That means, when the people at the top think everyone underneath them is stupid, what do you think is going to happen?  Therefore, the solution is to build a coalition of honest and hard working educators, who can begin to apply more pressure at the small group of academic elites who run everything.

What Else Doc Thinks You Should Know:
  • You should know the reason teachers get burnt out now more than ever is because the teachers in those schools are using old curriculum and old research to try and meet the needs of 21st century learners - and the problem is there's too big a gap between what the teacher wants to happen and what the students understand.
  • You should know that the reason over 1 million teachers have quit the teaching profession over the last decade is not because  of teacher pay, but a lack of respect and professionalism inside the K12 system. Not lack of professionalism on the part of teachers, but on the part of the K12 system itself.
  • You should know the reason student test scores have declined since 1960 is because the expiration date on the old curriculum is well past its prime. If you want to boost student achievement, then you must adopt a 21st century curriculum, otherwise you're creating the problem on purpose.
  • You should know the reason millions of high school graduates feel lost and confused about their future is not because of their age. Teenagers do not have a monopoly on confusion. So here's the truth. Because the K12 system does not teach a 21st century curriculum, high school graduates are entering into the world without any foundation of knowledge. Therefore, its understandable why they are asking this question: "What do I do now?"
  • You should know that you can pursue American Dream, if you learn the research-based 21st century skills.
  • You should know that Doc Schwartz is the only educator to run three successful pilot programs inside the K12 system that not only work, but provie beyond a shadow of a doubt how to run a 21st century K12 district.
  • You should know that there is a way to create a path for many more Americans to become millionaires than at any time in American History.
  • And that's just the tip of the iceberg...

The Education Thought Leader for the 21st Century

One of the biggest issues facing the K12 system in America is overcoming the fear of change. Everything that schools do, from what they teach to how they operate is simply because "that's how things are done."

"The School Doc" is changing that mindset.

He is a recognized expert educator by the NJ Department of Education, the Joint Legislative Committee on the Public Schools, and "The Teachers for Good Trouble" movement.

He is the first superintendent to develop and adopt a 21st century skills curriculum.
