The Three Simple Keys to Better Schools

Better Teachers

It Starts With Fighting
Teacher Burnout

When Miss M started teaching 15 years ago, she never thought there would come a day where she wanted to quit being a teacher. And yet here we are - Miss M is not only burnt out, but teaching is no longer fun.
So what happened?

Better Leaders

It Starts with the
6 Principles of Leadership

When Cole started his small business after college, he thought he knew everything he needed to know about business. After all, all of his professors promised him they were giving him the best education in the world. And yet Cole's business was running into a lot of problems.
So what happened?

Better Curriculum

It Starts with Teaching
Next Gen Skills

When Jaquan was a little kid, all he dreamt of doing was making money for working on cars, but what he didn't know was that his high school diploma was going to trap him in a low paying job for the rest of his life. But Jaquan had big dreams his education would never
allow him to pursue.
So what happened?

The Founder of Leaf Academy
Meet Doc Schwartz, M.Ed.

"Education is the key to success, but the problem is not all educations are equal," said Doc Schwartz, K12 expert, author and public speaker.

The only thing that separates a high quality education from a low quality one are the 3 simple keys of education.

  • The Next Gen Skills Curriculum (Better Curriculum)
  • The Teacher Development Program (Better Teachers)
  • The Principal's Academy (Better Leaders)

Doc ran all three of these programs in the State of New Jersey from 2007 to 2019 before leaving the K12 system for good. Not only were these three programs approved by the NJ Department of Education, but they proved once and for all that any school that follows these three keys can build a high quality program.

So why would you do anything else?

"It may be easier to buy a do-it-yourself school program from one of the major edu-consulting firms," said Doc. "But why would you want a cookie-cutter one size fits all solution, when you know it will never meet the needs of everyone?"

How to Disrupt Education
Without Disrupting Everything!
The Power of the 6 Principles of Leadership
Why Should Schools Bother to Teach the 6 Principles of Leadership?

Whether we like to admit this or not, our school system did not teach us the 6 principles of leadership skills.

And here's why that's such a huge problem.

  • Leadership can be learned in school: Most people think leadership is a personality trait or something you're born with, hence the phrase, "natural born leader." But what if that wasn't true at all. What if leaders were taught and not born? And if leadership skills can be taught, then what would kids need to learn in class?
  • How do you teach leadership in school? Once you realize that leadership skills can be taught in school, the next question to answer is what do kids need to learn in school, so that they can become leaders in the future? And the answer is the 6 principles of leadership skills.
  • What are the 6 Principles of Leadership Skills? If you stop believing that leaders are born and start believing that any kid, from any background has a chance to become a great leader - that's when you realize there are 6 principles to leadership skills. These are the 6 things that every kid needs to practice, so they can get better and better at leadership.
  • Two Types of Leadership:  After you learn the 6 principles of leadership, you become more aware that there are 2 types of leadership 1) personal leadership and 2) organizational leadership.
  • What's the Real Power of Leadership Skills?:  If our K12 system decided to teach every kid the 6 principles of leadership and not just the gifted and talented kids or just the rich kids - then every kid in America would finally have the same chance at opportunity. Therefore, the 6 principles of leadership is not some throw-away class that high schools can choose to avoid - the truth is the 6 principles of leadership needs to be required reading for graduation.
The Book That Changes It All

If you're looking for a game changing book to read, then you should read "Disrupting Education." Not only will it give you a different perspective on the entire school system, but it will also walk you through the 6 principles of leadership.

And once you learn the 6 principles of leadership - you will never see the world the same way ever again.

For example, the next time a politician whips people up into a frenzy, you will stay calm and relaxed. Not because you're smarter than everyone else, but now you can see through the manipulation. You can see how the elected official is choosing to twist facts, in order to get you to respond in a certain way.

But you're not going to fall for it anymore. And that's because you know the 6 principles of leadership. You now know how to lead other people and not just yourself.  Which means, you become a very dangerous person in society.

The more citizens who learn the 6 principles of leadership skills become more people the government can't control. And that's a good thing for you and its also a good thing for Democracy.

So why wait for the K12 system to teach you the 6 principles of leadership, when you can learn them right now? This is how you disrupt education without disrupting everything.

Therefore, if you want to read this book, and learn the 6 principles of leadership, you need to follow the yellow button to purchase your copy on Amazon. This book is available right now in both paperback and kindle versions.

The Leaf Academy Professional Development Program

In 2009, Doc launched the Teacher Development Program. At the time, the small group of academic elite who run our schools laughed at him. According to them, teachers don't need individualized and personalized teacher training. The "one size fits all" approach to PD was in their words, "good enough for teachers."

But is "good enough" what we want to do or do we want to treat teachers with more respect?

  • One Size Does Not Fit All:  There was a time when "one size fits all" professional development worked. But that time is not now. That time is over. What teachers need now is individualized and personalized PD that fits their individual needs. Because teachers are different from one another. Every teacher is unique. Therefore, don't teachers deserve a PD program that shows them how to be the best teacher they can be?
  • Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: Most people do not know the "Pareto Principle." That's not their fault. After all, the professors in college don't think teaching the "Pareto Principle" is important. Except, when you don't understand this principle, you will be doomed to repeat it. The "Pareto Principle" says that 80% of all the work will always be done by only 20% of the workforce. In other words, 20% of teachers in every school building are doing 80% of all the work that needs to be done. That's why your best teachers are being burnt out. Meanwhile 80% of teachers are slacking off. This isn't an opinion, this is provable math. So that's the question, how do you get 80% of teachers to step up more to the plate?
  • 21st Century Leadership: Schools need leaders. Teachers need leaders. And students need leaders. Our current school system is run by a small group of academic elites, who think everyone that doesn't have a doctorate hanging on their wall is stupid. But are you really stupid? Leadership starts from the top. That means, when the people at the top think everyone underneath them is stupid, what do you think is going to happen?  Therefore, the solution is to build a coalition of honest and hard working educators, who can begin to apply more pressure at the small group of academic elites who run everything.

What Else Doc Thinks You Should Know:
  • You should know the reason teachers get burnt out now more than ever is because the teachers in those schools are using old curriculum and old research to try and meet the needs of 21st century learners - and the problem is there's too big a gap between what the teacher wants to happen and what the students understand.
  • You should know that the reason over 1 million teachers have quit the teaching profession over the last decade is not because  of teacher pay, but a lack of respect and professionalism inside the K12 system. Not lack of professionalism on the part of teachers, but on the part of the K12 system itself.
  • You should know the reason student test scores have declined since 1960 is because the expiration date on the old curriculum is well past its prime. If you want to boost student achievement, then you must adopt a 21st century curriculum, otherwise you're creating the problem on purpose.
  • You should know the reason millions of high school graduates feel lost and confused about their future is not because of their age. Teenagers do not have a monopoly on confusion. So here's the truth. Because the K12 system does not teach a 21st century curriculum, high school graduates are entering into the world without any foundation of knowledge. Therefore, its understandable why they are asking this question: "What do I do now?"
  • You should know that you can pursue American Dream, if you learn the research-based 21st century skills.
  • You should know that Doc Schwartz is the only educator to run three successful pilot programs inside the K12 system that not only work, but provie beyond a shadow of a doubt how to run a 21st century K12 district.
  • You should know that there is a way to create a path for many more Americans to become millionaires than at any time in American History.
  • And that's just the tip of the iceberg...
