Most people don't realize the 21st century doesn't work the way the 20th century did.
And the reason they don't realize it is because everything we learned in school is stuck in a time warp. For example, when you went to school, your teachers didn't show you why the internet changed the world.
If I were to ask you, "how did the internet change the world?"
What would you say?
The fact is the 21st century works differently than the 20th century. And the reason it works differently is because the internet created new rules to live by. And if you don't know those rules, then you will lose the game of life.
So when you look at economic data and you wonder why 99% of people are struggling more today than ever before, it's because all of those people don't know the rules of the 21st century.

Y2K
If you were alive at the turn of the Millenium, then you remember the panic and hysteria surrounding "Y2K." If you weren't alive, maybe you heard your parents or grandparents talk about it, or maybe you saw a YouTube video explaining the drama.
What you need to know is the term "Y2K" became synonymous with "the end of the world" as we know it. And that's because everyone thought all the computers of the world were going to automatically shut down at midnight on January 1, 2000.
Why did people believe that? It turns out, highly intelligent people thought the internal clocks inside our computers wouldn't know what to do when the year switched from 1999 to 0000.
It seems silly 23 years later, but at the time -- this is what the entire world thought.
Why the 21st Century is Different?
We survived "Y2K" only to see the world economy crash during the Great Recession of 2008. As a result, 90% of the country's wealth is now controlled by 10% of the population. That means, life for 99% of Americans is more difficult today than it was 50 years ago.
So what changed? And why is the 21st century so different than before?
The answer is the internet and technology. But it's not as simple as that. Thus, in order to fully understand the answer we need to unpack it. So how does the internet and technology make life more difficult for people in 2023?
To answer that question, we need to compare what life looked like before the internet. For example, let's go back in history to the 1950s. For Millennials and Gen-Z, it might be hard to imagine a time before television, but in the 1950s is when TV was first introduced to the general public.
How did TV change people's lives? The answer is it gave people access to information they could not access before TV. And that's exactly what the internet has done for modern society. The internet has given people more access to news, information and content than ever before.
But that's not the full story. And here's how the internet changed the rules of the game. When TV was introduced, only wealthy people and corporations could afford to send a message through TV to reach an audience. Yes, TV gave people more access to information, but TV did not give ordinary people access to reach others. TV is a one-way street.
